Unstuck: Mobility Training

Move better. Feel less stiff. Unstuck Mobility Training At Train With Iron, Houthavens

Mobility training is about how well you can move your body through its available range of motion. It’s a combination of flexibility, strength and control, as opposed to only stretching. In Unstuck, we work on different areas of the body and explore movements that may not get much attention in your regular training. Here is an introduction by the host of the class, mobility coach Tess:

Why mobility training?

Most of us have movements we do all the time, and movements we rarely do. We sit. We walk. We train. We work at a desk. Over time some movements, like for example reaching overhead, can start to feel less accessible. Mobility training gives you the opportunity to work on them.

You’ll practice moving through different ranges of motion, controlling those positions and gradually becoming more comfortable there.

A good addition to strength training

Strength training and mobility training complement each other well. Strength gives you the ability to produce and control force. Mobility gives you access to the range of motion to do this optimally, and without unnecessary strain because of misalignment. Training both strength and mobility means you’re not just getting stronger. You’re also working on how you move, and do it well.

That said, you don’t have to be doing strength training to join Unstuck. Mobility training is a worthwhile session in its own right!

What happens in a class?

Every session is different, but you can expect a combination of controlled movements, and longer holds. There is no need to push yourself into the deepest possible stretch. The aim is to explore your range of motion and gradually become stronger and more comfortable within it.

Who is Unstuck for?

Pretty much anyone who wants to move better. You might already strength train and want to add some mobility work to your week. You might feel stiff after sitting at a desk all day. Or you might simply enjoy a slower, more deliberate type of training. You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need any previous experience.

Mobility is not just stretching

Stretching can be part of mobility training, but mobility is more than that. The difference is active control. It’s one thing to be able to get into a position. It’s another to be able to control your body there and move out of it. That’s what we work on in Unstuck.

Come and get Unstuck

Give your body a session to move in ways it may not normally get to. No experience required. Come as you are.
